It-fab Hands-On School on Micro- and Nanofabrication

The It-fab Hands-On School on Micro- and Nanofabrication is an intensive training programme designed to provide participants with both a solid theoretical foundation and direct practical experience in micro- and nanofabrication technologies.

Organized within the framework of It-fab, the Italian distributed infrastructure for micro- and nanofabrication, the School offers a unique opportunity to learn from experts operating in leading research facilities and cleanroom environments. It-fab brings together a network of academic and research institutions that share advanced infrastructures, expertise, and services to support research, innovation, and technology transfer in microelectronics, photonics, MEMS, quantum technologies, and related fields.

The School is specifically conceived as a hands-on training experience. Participants will not only attend lectures covering the fundamentals of micro- and nanofabrication processes but will also have the opportunity to access a professional cleanroom environment and directly experience key fabrication techniques under the guidance of experienced researchers and technologists.

Learning Objectives

By attending the School, participants will:

  • Gain an overview of modern micro- and nanofabrication technologies and cleanroom operations.
  • Understand the main process steps involved in device fabrication, including lithography, thin-film deposition, etching, packaging and characterization.
  • Learn about process integration and the fabrication workflow of micro- and nanoscale devices.
  • Acquire practical experience through guided cleanroom activities.
  • nteract with researchers, technologists, and peers working in different fields of micro- and nanotechnology.
  • Become familiar with the facilities and opportunities offered by the It-fab network.

The programme is intended for graduate students, PhD candidates, early-career researchers, and professionals interested in developing practical skills in micro- and nanofabrication technologies.
